At the fourth pontoon of Sadarghat in the river Karnaphuli, the KSRM jetty reigns supreme, stretching 100 meters along the waterfront designed to accommodate 45 light vessels.
The purpose of the KSRM jetty is to facilitate the unloading of raw materials. The jetty provides a dedicated facility for unloading goods, particularly imported scrap, from lighters (smaller vessels) at the outer anchorage of the Chattogram port. This process helps reduce the draft of larger vessels, enabling them to access the port's main jetty more efficiently.
The jetty aims to streamline the unloading process, reducing vessel waiting time and minimizing business demurrage costs. Overall, the purpose of the jetty is to enhance the efficiency of importing raw materials, particularly scrap, for steel manufacturing, thereby supporting the supply chain of the steel industry in Bangladesh.
